A new study reveals that hybrid workers take fewer sick days and experience less stress. The research, conducted by the International Workplace Group (IWG), surveyed 4,000 hybrid workers across the UK and US. It highlights the positive impact of flexible working arrangements on both physical and mental health.

Reduced Sick Days and Improved Preventative Care

The study found that 36% of hybrid workers are taking fewer sick days due to the flexibility in how and where they work. This improved work arrangement also encourages preventative healthcare habits, with 74% of respondents making time for regular screenings, check-ups, and healthier lifestyle changes. The ability to manage work schedules around health needs allows employees to prioritize their well-being without compromising their professional responsibilities.

Lower Stress Levels and Better Health Management

Hybrid working has led to a reduction in stress-related health conditions for 70% of those surveyed. Additionally, 72% reported being better able to manage existing health issues. Reduced daily commuting plays a major role in this improvement, with 80% of participants stating that spending less time traveling has significantly decreased their stress levels. This better work-life balance has resulted in fewer cases of stress-related symptoms such as severe headaches, digestive issues, and muscle tension.

Mental Wellbeing and Work-Life Balance

The findings indicate that hybrid work enhances overall mental well-being. Employees with flexible schedules report feeling less anxious and more in control of their time. This greater autonomy not only improves their personal lives but also contributes to a more positive work environment. By reducing the strain caused by long commutes and rigid schedules, hybrid work supports a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.

Business Benefits of Hybrid Work

Mark Dixon, CEO of International Workplace Group, emphasized the mutual benefits of hybrid working for both employees and employers. “Not only is it universally popular with workers due to higher satisfaction and improved work-life balance, but it also results in fewer sick days and better stress management,” Dixon explained. “Meanwhile, companies benefit from increased productivity and reduced operational costs.”

The study underscores how flexible work arrangements are transforming the modern workplace, promoting better health outcomes while enhancing productivity and employee satisfaction.
