Case Study

The Corbett Group

The Corbett Group is a dynamic Galway-based business success story, led by brothers Jon and Derek Corbett. With operations spanning retail, hospitality, and accommodation, the company has seen rapid growth in recent years, establishing a strong local presence and expanding its workforce significantly. As their employee numbers increased, so too did the complexity of their HR requirements. To support their continued growth and ensure full compliance with Irish employment legislation, The Corbett Group partnered with GHR Consulting.

Task

The Corbett Group engaged with GHR Consulting to bring their HR practices up to date with current employment legislation. This included reviewing and updating employment contracts and HR policies, introducing a structured and legally compliant employee handbook, and delivering practical management training. With significant business expansion underway, the key priority was to ensure compliance while building strong internal HR foundations that could support further growth.

Approach

Our work with The Corbett Group began with a comprehensive audit of existing HR documentation and practices. We identified gaps in compliance, particularly around legislative updates and internal policy alignment.
We then worked closely with Jon and his team to:
  • Redraft employment contracts in line with the latest Irish employment law.

  • Introduce a complete suite of HR policies that reflect current legal obligations and best practice.

  • Develop a concise and accessible employee handbook for all staff.

  • Provide tailored management training to ensure supervisors and managers understood their responsibilities under Irish law.

The training focused on essential areas such as disciplinary procedures, employee rights, managing absence, and fostering a legally compliant and positive workplace culture.

Results & Impact

As a result of our collaboration, The Corbett Group now has:
  • Fully compliant and legally robust employee contracts and policy documents.

  • An up-to-date employee handbook that clearly communicates expectations and procedures to all staff.

  • Well-informed managers who understand their obligations and can confidently handle people-related issues.

Most importantly, the business is now protected from potential legal risks and is well-positioned to continue its impressive expansion. The introduction of clear internal structures has helped standardise HR processes across the group, supporting a consistent and professional employee experience.
